Spume
Word of the Week
I heard this word being used in a novel I listened to towards the end of 2024. I remember thinking that it was an unusual word and I wanted to learn a little more about it. The author used the word when talking about her characters sailing across the ocean. I didn’t know exactly what she was talking about but I got a general idea from the context and then went straight to the dictionary to find out what in the world spume really was. I found it interesting that the foam created in the water is called spume.
Spume : frothy matter on liquids : foam, scum1
I also found it interesting that spume also means scum. I am going to see if I can remember to use spume instead of scum one day!
