Assiduous
Word of the Week
This week’s word came from a book I was reading a few weeks ago. I read the word several times in the sentence but struggled with the author’s use of the word in the context of the scene. That is due to the fact that I thought the word meant something totally different than it did! It is funny how at times I think I know what a word means and yet, I was completely wrong. I’m glad I was wrong on the meaning of this word. Once I learned the meaning, I knew that the author was indeed using it correctly and it matched the events taking place in the book.
Assiduous : showing great care, attention, and effort : marked by careful unremitting attention or persistent application1
Here is how I would use the word in a sentence:
The nurse was assiduous with the patients under her care which helped the families know that their loved one was in good hands.
Did you know this word? How would you use this word in a sentence? Are you like me in that you read a word thinking you know the meaning and you really don’t? Leave a comment below!
