This week’s word comes from a poster I saw at school on several teacher’s doors. I thought it was a fun and interesting way to use the word demure. I have a feeling our media specialist is the one who came up with it! She is wildly creative. I typically see this word being used in novels set in the late 1800’s early 1900’s.
Demure : reserved, modest : affectedly modest, reserved, serious : coy1
Here’s how I would use it in a sentence:
Off to the side in a crowded room of young people sat a group of the more demure women and men who could easily hold conversations with those in close proximity while their more social counterparts bustled about the room.

In most social settings, I would be observed to be demure. However, the same observers may be perplexed by my sometimes ostentatious behavior!
